How to use ASO keyword ideas

A keyword list only helps once it lands in your metadata and gets measured. Work through it in this order.

  1. 1

Start with what your app does, not your brand

Type a generic seed like “habit tracker” or “budget planner”. Apple only suggests terms people really type, so each idea is a phrase with actual demand.

  2. 2

    Weigh popularity against competition

High popularity with few top-10 apps using the term in their name is the sweet spot. If 8 of 10 names already contain it, you'll need a stronger listing to rank.

  3. 3

Place the winners, then track them

Put your best 2–3 terms in the title and subtitle, fill the 100-character keyword field with the rest, and track rankings weekly so you can swap what doesn't move.

Free ASO keyword tool FAQ

What is ASO keyword research?
ASO keyword research is finding the search terms people type in the App Store or Google Play when they look for apps like yours, then choosing the ones with enough demand and beatable competition for your title, subtitle, keyword field, and description. It is the store-search equivalent of SEO keyword research.
Is this ASO keyword tool free?
Yes. You get 3 free keyword lookups per browser with no signup, each returning Apple's top 10 keyword suggestions for your seed with search popularity and a competition indicator. After that, the results beyond the top 3 unlock inside AppLaunchFlow Keyword Monitor.
Does it work for Google Play?
Partly. Google Play has no public keyword-suggest API, so when you pick Google Play the tool shows cross-store keyword ideas derived from App Store search hints for the same seed. Most terms transfer well between stores, but confirm Play-specific demand in Keyword Monitor, which tracks both stores.
How is search popularity estimated?
Honestly, it is a ranking, not a volume. Apple orders its search-hint suggestions by how often people search them, so the top 3 suggestions are marked High, positions 4–8 Medium, and the rest Low. Apple does not publish exact App Store keyword search volume; for a numeric popularity score and daily rankings, use Keyword Monitor.
What is the difference between this tool and Keyword Monitor?
This page is for discovery: type a seed, get ideas, sanity-check competition. Keyword Monitor is for tracking: it saves your keywords, records daily rankings for iOS and Google Play across countries, shows competitor movement, and gives every keyword a popularity score, so you can see whether your metadata changes actually improved rank.
What is an ASO tool?
An ASO (App Store Optimization) tool helps you get found in the App Store and Google Play: it finds the keywords people search, shows how hard each is to rank for, tracks your positions over time, and often covers listing assets such as screenshots, icons, and descriptions. This page covers the keyword-discovery part; AppLaunchFlow's Keyword Monitor, ASO copy generator, and screenshot generator cover the rest.
How do I use a keyword tool for free?
Type one seed term that describes your app (for example "habit tracker" or "budget planner"), pick the store and country, and run it. You get Apple's live search suggestions ranked by popularity plus how many top-10 apps already use each term in their name. Do this for 3 seeds, shortlist the terms with High or Medium popularity and few exact-title competitors, and place them in your title, subtitle, and keyword field.
How many keywords fit in the iOS keyword field?
The App Store keyword field holds 100 characters. Separate terms with commas and no spaces, skip words already in your app name and subtitle (Apple indexes those too), and avoid plurals or category names Apple adds automatically. That usually leaves room for 10–15 extra single words that combine into many longer phrases.
